Thanks largely due court cases being litigated where they had no choice because of how these laws work right now most universities allow them as long as certain criteria are met.

How do Emotional Support Animals and Services Animals different?
Service animals are the dogs that assist people who have disabilities. They can be trained to provide help for a variety of different needs, including visual impairment or PTSD and many more conditions. Service Dogs have been specifically trained so their owners do not need any additional guidance when they’re out in public – because these amazing animals will take care of everything from alerting you if there’s an oncoming car by pressing his nose against yours until the danger has passed through protecting guards your body during panic attacks due to calming seizures caused by epilepsy.
A emotional support animal is generally a canine or cat (but can be a variety of domesticated animals) that provides therapeutic benefits to its owner through companionship. Emotional support and comfort are provided by the animal to persons with psychiatric disabilities and other mental impairments.
Emotional support animals are recognized under the federal Fair Housing Act, which covers organizations that restrict or ban pets. Emotional support animals are also covered by the Air Carrier Access Act, which allows emotional support animals to enter an aircraft cabin without charge if they accompany you on your trip. You will need an ESA prescription letter to obtain either housing or air travel
My animal isn’t a dog or cat, can they still be an emotional support animal?
Yes, any animal that can provide therapeutic benefit and be considered an Emotional Support Animal.
